“Symphony of Safety: The Art of Life-Saving Collaboration” – A Joint Symposium by the Sri Lanka College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (SLCOG)
and the College of Anaesthesiologists and Intensivists of Sri Lanka (COAISL)
To mark a significant step in strengthening multidisciplinary care in maternal health, the Sri Lanka College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (SLCOG) organized a joint symposium with the College of Anaesthesiologists and Intensivists of Sri Lanka (COAISL) on 13th June 2025 under the theme “Symphony of Safety: The Art of Life-Saving Collaboration.” The event was held under the leadership of Dr. S. P. Akmeemana (President of SLCOG) and Dr. Vinodini Wanigasekara (President of COAISL). The symposium aimed to highlight the vital importance of collaborative clinical practice between obstetricians, anaesthesiologists, and intensivists in managing high-risk pregnancies and emergency obstetric care. The scientific programme was skillfully coordinated by Prof. Madura Jayawardana on behalf of SLCOG and Dr. Anoma Perera on behalf of COAISL.
The lecture sessions were enriched by the contributions of expert resource persons including, Dr. Amila Rubasinghe, Professor Prabodhana Ranaweera, Dr. Iresha Walwage, Dr. Upul Ranjith, and Dr. Nilangani Lamahewage, who shared valuable insights on best practices and clinical strategies. A thought-provoking panel discussion followed, featuring Professor Madura Jayawardana, Dr. Indunil Piyadigama, and Dr. Anoma Perera, who offered diverse perspectives and practical solutions to real-world clinical challenges. The symposium was a resounding success, fostering greater understanding and unity between professional disciplines committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of mothers and babies in Sri Lanka.
