Secretary’s Message

It is with open arms that I welcome you to the official website of the Sri Lanka College of
Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (SLCOG).
Founded in 1953, SLCOG has evolved into the premier professional body steering the standards
of care, education, and advocacy in obstetrics and gynaecology. Guided by our core values of
professionalism, equity, evidence-based practice, and accountability, the College remains
steadfast in its commitment to improving outcomes for women, newborns, and families across
Sri Lanka.
In an era of rapidly advancing science, evolving population needs, and increasing health system
pressures, SLCOG recognizes its responsibility to provide clinical leadership, shape national
policy, and support the delivery of safe, high-quality, and woman-centered care. Although we are
global by nature, we are indeed local by nurture. Hence, our work is closely aligned with
internationally accepted principles of care, while remaining responsive to local realities and
priorities.
This website serves as a key professional and public interface of the College. It provides access
to national clinical guidelines, academic activities, and continuing professional development
opportunities, supporting clinicians at all stages of their careers. In parallel, we remain
committed to strengthening public engagement through accessible patient information and
advocacy for women’s health rights.
The year ahead will focus on strategic priorities that include:

  • Strengthening national guideline development and implementation
  • Supporting workforce development and competency-based training
  • Enhancing quality improvement, audit, and maternal and perinatal surveillance
  • Promoting multidisciplinary collaboration and system-level solutions
  • Contributing constructively to health policy formulation and reform

Through close collaboration with the Ministry of Health, regulatory bodies, professional
colleges, international partners, and civil society, SLCOG aims to ensure that policy decisions
and service delivery models are informed by robust clinical evidence and best practice.
I warmly invite all members, partners, and visitors to engage with the College through this
platform, participate actively in our initiatives, and contribute to shaping the future of obstetric
and gynaecological care in Sri Lanka.
Together, we can strive to uphold the highest standards of clinical practice and leadership, in our
collective effort towards serving women’s health.
With best wishes,

Dr. Chaminda Hunukumbure
Honorary Secretary
Sri Lanka College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists
